Bike Ambassador (Menlo Park, CA)

Bikes Make Life Better designs and operates world-class bicycle programs for large organizations that have a strong commitment to sustainable transportation. We run a robust bike program, on contract, for a high-tech company headquartered in Menlo Park and are hiring a team of Bike Ambassadors to help promote safe bike commuting to, from and around their corporate campus.

Bike Ambassadors inform and support employees on safe cycling through real-time, on-site guidance, classroom and on-road classes, group commute rides, bike events, video and other educational materials.

If you’re an experienced bike commuter, with outstanding customer service skills, and a real passion for helping people ride happily and safely, then this could be your dream job!

Core Responsibilities

  • Guide and educate employees at key intersections on how to safely travel across campus
  • Develop and teach classes on bike safety, bike commuting and basic bike maintenance
  • Lead group commute rides, while modeling safe riding practices, with a focus on helping those new to bike commuting
  • Help develop educational materials to promote safe bike commuting and use of campus bikes
  • Staff bike-related events, like monthly Bike-to-Work Days, Transportation Fairs, etc.
  • Respond to employee requests and questions about bike commuting, bike related amenities and campus bike use
  • Help cultivate the success of the Bike Ambassador program

Qualifications

  • Experience as a bike commuter

Position Overview

We are looking for a Project Coordinator who will be a key member of our home office team, guiding and supporting every facet of our business.

The position is unique and includes diverse responsibilities, including new project development, management and coordination; participation in client bike events; and marketing, operational and administrative support. However, this is a new positon that will evolve with the right candidate.

Above all, we are seeking an individual who is a smart, creative problem solver; a self-starter who likes working with a diverse team; and an outstanding communicator who is passionate about bikes as transportation.

Core Responsibilities
The Project Coordinator will provide support and project management for the home office in San Francisco as well as on site with clients in the Bay Area.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Help create new projects and collaborate with other staff members on existing ones
  • Provide support, track and manage projects and events for clients
  • Staff bike-related events at client locations
  • Lead group commute rides, model safe riding
  • Prepare materials utilizing an array of tools including Excel, Word, PowerPoint/Prezi, Google Drive Tools, to develop informative documents
  • Present to groups on bike-related topics
  • Help with marketing, operational and administrative tasks and projects

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of administration and/or project management
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to write reports and business correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, prospects, team members, suppliers and others
  • Smart, creative problem solver
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities
  • Ability to manage time wisely and work solo, with little daily supervision
  • Fluency with Google Drive, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, plus comfort with CRM, collaboration and bulk email platforms
  • Passion for bike commuting
  • Cheerful, outgoing personality
  • Graphic design, photography, Adobe and CAD experience/skills a plus
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Able to work from a home office

We run a robust bike program at a leading tech company in Sunnyvale and are looking for a dynamic individual with management experience and bike mechanic skills to run and support the bike program with our on-site team.

We are looking for a highly collaborative, customer-driven individual to manage our client’s bike program, as a part of their transportation program. This individual will manage a small on-site team of Bikes Make Life Better mechanics and coordinate efforts with our clients and key suppliers to provide a robust bike program. The position includes managing and supporting Campus bike and Loaner bike programs, repairing and moving bikes, teaching bike classes, leading rides and helping with bike-related events and infrastructure improvements.

The Bike Program Manager & Mechanic will work under the direction of Bikes Make Life Better management, in collaboration with our client’s transportation staff.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Manage a small team of bike mechanics
  • Manage the Campus Bike program, including supervising and participating in daily repair and rebalancing efforts
  • Manage and support the Loaner Bike program, including supervising repair and rebalancing efforts and providing employee support
  • Design and teach classes on basic bike safety and maintenance
  • Plan and lead rides that promote bike commuting
  • Help with bike related events, like Bike-to-Work Day, Wellness Fairs, Transportation Fairs and philanthropic activities
  • Contribute to infrastructure improvements such as input on better bike parking
  • Help shape bike program policies and procedures
  • Collaborate on monthly activities and other forms of employee engagement
  • Help with 1:1 employee bike commute support
  • Hire/manage bike staff as operation grows
  • Work in tandem with other departments and vendors, such as Wellness and Security

Minimum qualifications:

  • Proven track record managing people and programs
  • Demonstrated bike repair and maintenance skills
  • Collaborative, team player
  • Creative and can-do approach to problem solving and decision making

We are looking for a dynamic, collaborative, customer-driven individual to manage the Bike Shop and Transit Hub in downtown Seattle, and to provide bike repairs for employees, as well as assist with any bike and alternative transportation questions.

The Bike Shop & Transit Hub Manager will work under the direction of Bikes Make Life Better management (from San Francisco), in collaboration with our client’s Facilities teams (from Menlo Park and Seattle). This position requires an individual who is a self-starter and who has experience managing a small bike operation.

Duties and responsibilities include:

    This is a new position and will evolve over time.

  • Staff and manage the day-to-day operations of the Bike Shop and Transit Hub
  • Help employees with transportation options and bike parking
  • Manage the loaner bike program and other bike-related programs such as Bike to Work days
  • Develop and manage new bike-related programs that build community and support commuting
  • Coordinate classes, rides, and events that promote bike commuting
  • Repair employee bikes and loaner bikes
  • Manage inventory and stocking of the Hub (with help from our other shops)
  • Handle sales of bike accessories through a computer POS system
  • Hire/manage other staff as operation grows

Minimum qualifications:

  • Proven track record of outstanding customer service
  • Experience running an operation or department, ideally within a larger organization
  • 5+ years professional experience as a bike mechanic, ideally in a bike or all-sport shop
  • Collaborative, creative and action-oriented approach to problem solving and decision making
  • Highly proactive and responsive

Full-Time Bicycle Mechanic (Menlo Park, CA)

We are seeking a pro-level, experienced bicycle mechanic to work at a Silicon Valley tech company supporting its bike program.

Bikes Make Life Better, Inc. is seeking a full-time (40 hours/week + benefits and weekends free) experienced bicycle mechanic to service a growing corporate bike program. In addition to maintaining the fleet bikes used daily by thousands of employees, you’ll also be working to prep and repair employee loaner bikes in our warehouse facility, as well as support our full-service bike shop working on a mix of employee and company owned bicycles.

Ideal candidate will be competently able to diagnose, repair and accurately document work electronically in a timely, efficient manner. This is a fast-paced, dynamic cutting-edge bike program unlike any other traditional bike shop with a strong, close-knit team and a simple mission: to get more people on bikes, whether for transportation, recreation or commuting to work.

Minimum qualifications:

  • 5+ years as a professional bike mechanic, team mechanic or bike mechanic instructor
  • Education, training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Proven ability to assemble and work on all types of bikes, including high-end road and mountain bikes
  • Solid computer skills (POS, Excel, CRM) and comfort learning/using new programs
  • Friendly and customer service-driven
  • Self-starter with superb time management skills and the ability to multitask in a collaborative, busy work environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Familiarity with social media

Bicycle Fleet Rebalancer (FT or PT) (Menlo Park, CA)

We’re looking for a full-time and part-time Rebalancers to maintain the distribution of bikes around campus. You’ll work with a fun group of people, in a pleasant environment, supporting a very popular program.

Great pay and benefits!
Full and part-time positions available (for PT – minimum 15 hrs/week)
Shifts Mon-Fri: morning shifts 6:30AM – 11:00AM and/or evening shifts 3:30PM – 8:30PM.

Responsibilities include:

  • Repositioning of bikes around campus using cargo bikes and vans + trailers
  • Providing basic service and tire inflation of campus bikes

Minimum requirements include:

  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
  • Basic understanding of bike maintenance or willingness to learn these skills
  • Friendly and customer service-driven
  • Adaptable and dependable
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Good time management and multi-tasking skills
