Bike Fleet Manager (Menlo Park, CA)

We are seeking a Bike Fleet Manager to lead the team that deploys those bikes.

The Bike Fleet Manager is an experienced people manager, with outstanding communication, collaboration and customer service skills. This individual manages a large team of Bikes Make Life Better rebalancers and bike captains, coordinating efforts with the larger bike team and with the client.

Duties and responsibilities include:
● Manages bike fleet  operation with ultimate responsibility for meeting client and team needs
● Directly manages Bike Fleet Assistant Manager and coaches them on supervision of Fleet staff
● Monitors Fleet budget, expenses, equipment ordering and receiving to meet client/team needs and to stay within budget
● Oversees scheduling and PTO requests from all staff in conjunction with Assistant Fleet Manager
● Monitors and responds to customer feedback regarding campus bikes via internal tracking and communications platforms
● Provides weekly reports to General Manager and client Transportation team on current campus bike metrics
● Oversees hiring and on-boarding for all Fleet staff in collaboration with the Assistant Manager
● Collaborates with Assistant Manager on staff training for all Fleet new hires and current staff
● Collaborates with General Manager and Assistant Manager on reviews, raises, advanced training, and promotions for all Fleet staff
● Collaborates with Operations Manager and Transportation team to assess needs and improve campus bike infrastructure
● Reports monthly on Fleet finances to Operations Manager

Minimum qualifications include:
● Minimum 3-5 years people management experience
● Proven problem solving ability with strong emphasis on conflict resolution and active listening preferred
● Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, clients, team members, suppliers and others
● Detail-oriented with strong organizational and prioritization skills
● Good time management, budget management and multi-tasking skills
● Team player with good communication skills
● Fluency with Google Drive and MS Suite, plus comfort with communication and collaboration platforms
● High level of comfort/knowledge with various communication modes, including email, chat, messaging, systems. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
● Basic understanding of bike maintenance
● Passion for bikes as transportation a plus
● Experience with bike fleet operations a plus

Bike Program Manager (Seattle)

The Bike Program Manager is a highly collaborative, customer-driven individual who manages the bike program, as a part of the overall transportation program. This individual manages a small on-site team of Bikes Make Life Better mechanics and coordinates efforts with the client and the home office team. The position includes managing the day-to-day operations of employee-facing bike shops, bike-related infrastructure improvements and developing and managing a commuter bike program.

Responsibilities

  • Staffing and People Management
    • Manage a small team of bike mechanics
    • Develop staff to their fullest potential

    • Lead recruiting, selecting and orienting of new staff
    • Identify and implement relevant training and staff advancement programs
  • Program Management

    • Help employees with transportation options and bike parking
  • Bike Shop / Bike Repair Management
    • Staff and manage the day-to-day operations of 2-3 small bike shops
    • Staff and manage “pop-up” bike repair services at remote locations
    • Manage inventory and stocking of the bike shops
    • Handle sales of bikes and bike accessories through a computer POS system
    • Repair employee bikes and loaner bikes, if needed
  • Customer Care
    • Act as the primary point of contact for the client
    • Maintain, or exceed, agreed-upon performance levels
    • Participate in regular client and staff meetings in an engaged, informed and collaborative way
  • Financial, Data Analysis and Reporting
    • Track, analyze and report data on key performance indicators
    • Participate in the establishment of budgets
    • Track and report results to management

Bike Consultant / Project Lead

The Bike Consultant / Project Lead is a key member of our home office team, guiding projects and supporting the growth of our business.

The position is unique and includes diverse responsibilities, including new project development, management and coordination; end-of-trip bike facility planning and design; and participation in client bike events. This is a new position that will evolve with the right candidate.

Core Responsibilities:
The Bike Consultant / Project Lead will work from their own home office, with a weekly meeting in San Francisco, as well as periodic work on-site with clients. Core responsibilities include:

Project Development, Management and Coordination

  • Develop and support client projects related to any facet of a bike program (infrastructure, education, incentives, data tracking, etc.)
  • Conduct research and provide analysis
  • Write and edit reports
  • Provide input into proposals, time estimates and pricing on the front end
  • Gather input for project debriefing on the tail end
  • Stay abreast of bike, transportation and client news to support projects and growth

End-of-Trip (EOT) Bike Facility Planning & Design

  • Collaborate on EOT projects
  • Work with clients to determine EOT needs, timing and budget parameters
  • Do on-site visits and take measurements where needed
  • Create facility layouts with options
  • Review existing plans and provide input and/or revised layouts
  • Collaborate, draft and/or edit EOT reports
  • Provide input into proposals, time estimates and pricing on the front end

  • Stay abreast of EOT best practices, including products, materials and facility design

Client Event Support

  • Support client bike events, including leading group rides, teaching classes/clinics; staffing Bike-to-Work Day, safety clinics, bike fairs, demo days, etc

Bicycle Mechanic/Rebalancer (Sunnyvale, CA)

Bikes Make Life Better, Inc. manages a large bike fleet at one of our client organizations — think large hi-tech company in Silicon Valley (Sunnyvale) — and we’re adding to our team.

We’re hiring a full-time bicycle fleet mechanic/rebalancer to service a growing corporate bike program. In addition to maintaining the fleet bikes used daily by hundreds of employees, you’ll be responsible for maintaining the daily distribution of fleet bikes around campus.

The ideal candidate should be able to competently diagnose, repair and maintain bicycles, be comfortable working outdoors, riding a bike in varying weather conditions, and providing excellent customer service.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Maintain and repair campus bikes
  • Maintain and repair e-cargo bikes
  • Build campus bikes on an as-needed basis
  • Monitor GPS Fleet Management Software (FMS)
  • Retrieve stray bikes that leave the corporate campus
  • Redistribute campus bikes daily using an e-cargo bike and trailer as well as a sprinter-style van
  • Organize and maintain tools and other assets of the bicycle maintenance operation
  • Assist with bike programs, events and special promotions, as needed

Minimum qualifications:

  • 2+ years as a bike mechanic, preferably at a bike or all-sports shop
  • Proven ability to assemble and perform standard bike maintenance
  • Experience servicing electric bikes required
  • Ability to frequently lift 40 pounds
  • Working knowledge of, and comfort with, basic office computer programs (Word, Excel, PPT, email, etc.)
  • Friendly and customer service-oriented

The role of the Program Coordinator is to encourage employees to bike commute to/from work and encourage safe cycling habits around campus. They provide these services by developing and promoting programs such as events, classes/clinics, group rides and onsite amenities that encourage bicycling as safe and effective transportation.
