Organization Overview
Bikes Make Life Better plans and operates bike programs for large organizations that have a strong commitment to sustainable transportation. We run a robust bike program, on contract, for a high-tech company headquartered in Menlo Park (yes, that one!) and are seeking a dynamic General Manager to successfully lead our team of 60-80 employees and manage the overall function of the program.

Position Overview
The General Manager will work under the direction of Bikes Make Life Better, in collaboration with our client, to guide the efforts and outcomes of the managers who run campus bike operations, shop operations, fleet operations and employee bike programs. This individual must have a talent for people management and will listen, understand and anticipate client and staff needs.

Responsibilities

    Staff and Resource Allocation
  • Develop staff to their fullest potential
  • Run a great organization where staff are motivated and committed
  • Directly manage/coach departmental managers
  • Plan objectives, assign accountabilities, monitor and appraise job results
  • Lead recruiting, selecting and orienting of new staff
  • Identify and implement relevant training and staff advancement programs
    Customer Care
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the client
  • Maintain, or exceed, agreed-upon performance levels
  • Participate in regular client and staff meetings in an engaged, informed and collaborative way
    Financial and Reporting
  • Track, analyze and report data on key performance indicators
  • Establish budgets and manage finances against budget
  • Track and report results to management

Qualifications

  • A strong track record of leadership and performance management with teams of 50+ employees
  • Demonstrated experience managing diverse functions in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in project management and curriculum development
  • Collaborative, creative and action-oriented approach to problem solving and decision making
  • Solid experience in financial management, staffing, coaching, quality management and strategic planning
  • Outstanding customer service
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly proactive and responsive
  • Complete comfort with office and mobile technology/tools
  • Experience with data tracking and analysis
  • Bike experience, knowledge and/or passion (although bike industry experience not required)
  • Work in a corporate environment a plus

Compensation

  • Salary commensurate with experience

Bike Ambassador (Menlo Park, CA)

Bikes Make Life Better designs and operates world-class bicycle programs for large organizations that have a strong commitment to sustainable transportation. We run a robust bike program for a high-tech company headquartered in Menlo Park and are hiring a team of Bike Ambassadors to help promote safe bike commuting to, from and around their corporate campus.

The role of the Bike Ambassadors is to encourage employees to bike commute to/from work and encourage safe cycling habits around campus. They provide these services by developing and promoting programs such as events, classes/clinics, group rides and onsite amenities that encourage bicycling as safe and effective transportation.

If you’re an experienced bike commuter, with outstanding customer service skills, and a real passion for helping people ride happily and safely, then this could be your dream job!

Core Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with team to develop and promote programs to encourage new riders
  • Assist in data collection and analysis that demonstrates the benefits of bike commuting and safety trends on campus
  • Create educational and marketing materials to promote bike commuting and safe use of campus bikes
  • Develop, facilitate and promote classes on bike safety, bike commuting and basic bike maintenance
  • Offer guidance and education to employees at key intersections on how to safely travel across campus
  • Staff and coordinate bike-related events, like monthly Bike-to-Work Days, Transportation Fairs, etc.
  • Respond to employee requests and questions about bike commuting, bike related amenities and campus bike use

Qualifications

  • Passion for bikes as everyday transportation
  • Comfortable working with computers, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, content creation software (Adobe illustrator, Photoshop) and marketing through social media (Facebook, Instagram).
  • Experience in project management and curriculum development
  • Customer service focused, with emphasis on responsiveness and professionalism
  • Reliable and responsible
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Experience as a bike commuter preferred
  • Photography/videography experience a plus

Compensation

  • $21/hour (weekdays only)

Full-Time Bicycle Mechanic (Menlo Park, CA)

We are seeking a pro-level, experienced bicycle mechanic to work at a Silicon Valley tech company supporting its bike program.

Bikes Make Life Better, Inc. is seeking a full-time (40 hours/week + benefits and weekends free) experienced bicycle mechanic to service a growing corporate bike program. In addition to maintaining the fleet bikes used daily by thousands of employees, you’ll also be working to prep and repair employee loaner bikes in our warehouse facility, as well as support our full-service bike shop working on a mix of employee and company owned bicycles.

Ideal candidate will be competently able to diagnose, repair and accurately document work electronically in a timely, efficient manner. This is a fast-paced, dynamic cutting-edge bike program unlike any other traditional bike shop with a strong, close-knit team and a simple mission: to get more people on bikes, whether for transportation, recreation or commuting to work.

Minimum qualifications:

  • 5+ years as a professional bike mechanic, team mechanic or bike mechanic instructor
  • Education, training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Proven ability to assemble and work on all types of bikes, including high-end road and mountain bikes
  • Solid computer skills (POS, Excel, CRM) and comfort learning/using new programs
  • Friendly and customer service-driven
  • Self-starter with superb time management skills and the ability to multitask in a collaborative, busy work environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Familiarity with social media

Compensation:

  • $21-23/hour (weekdays only)

Full-Time Bicycle Fleet Rebalancer  (Menlo Park, CA)

We’re looking for full-time Rebalancers to maintain the distribution of bikes around campus. You’ll work with a fun group of people, in a pleasant environment, supporting a very popular program.

Responsibilities include:

  • Repositioning of bikes around campus using cargo bikes and vans + trailers
  • Providing basic service and tire inflation of campus bikes

Minimum requirements include:

  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
  • Basic understanding of bike maintenance or willingness to learn these skills
  • Friendly and customer service-driven
  • Adaptable and dependable
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Good time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Team player with good communication skills
  • Ability to work autonomously for extended periods of time
  • Comfortable with email and other messaging systems
  • Valid drivers license and clean driving record required

Compensation:
